About the Farmer

Dõna Dionisia, and her 3 married children, are all a part of a small-scale, artisanal group of coffee farmers called the “Aroma Juquileño”. Banded together to support and encourage one another, this group of female coffee growers is focused on producing high quality coffee. All from Zapotec origin, an ancient indigenous people group found primarily in the Oaxaca region, their farms can be found high in the rugged mountains of Juquila Vijanos.

Committed to each other as well as maintaining their Zapotec traditions and language, they are producing some of the most outstanding coffee we’ve tasted from this region. Created from a mix of coffee plant varietals, including the much sought after Marsellesa plant, this micro-lot has delicate acidity with fruit notes of juicy plum combined with tastes of cinnamon, vanilla, and green tea.

This coffee is sourced through our on-the-ground partners, Azahar Coffee, an organization working throughout Colombia and Mexico to bring together producers of the highest quality with coffee roasters. Through their hard work, they are changing the landscape in these countries by bringing necessary resources, enabling full traceability, and providing direct trade access to hundreds of farmers such as the women of Aroma Juquileño.
