Travel Coffee Gear

If you’re anything like us, traveling without good coffee just isn’t an option. Whether you’re camping in the woods, staying in an Airbnb, or visiting family, having the right gear makes all the difference. Great coffee doesn’t have to stay at home—you just need a few reliable tools to take your ritual on the road.

Here’s some of our tried and true travel items.

AeroPress: Compact, Consistent, & Nearly Unbreakable

The AeroPress is our go-to for a number of reasons. It’s lightweight, durable, and brews a surprisingly balanced cup with minimal cleanup. Whether you prefer espresso-style shots or something closer to a classic pour-over, this little brewer is flexible enough to handle it. Plus, you don’t need much to get started—just coffee, hot water, and a quick stir.

Pro tip: Bring metal or reusable filters to cut down on waste (and space).

Portable Electric Kettle: Your On-the-Go Water Heater

Hot water is essential, and while you can heat water over a campfire or hotel microwave, having a portable electric kettle makes life easier. We recommend finding one with variable temperature control—it’s especially helpful if you like to fine-tune your brew. Look for collapsible silicone models or compact stainless steel ones with dual voltage if you’re heading abroad.

Hand Grinder—or Pre-Ground Coffee, If You’re Packing Light

Fresh-ground coffee makes a noticeable difference, but we get it—sometimes convenience wins. If you have the space and time, a compact hand burr grinder is worth the effort. They’re quiet, durable, and deliver consistent grinds for AeroPress or pour-over.

But if you’re minimizing gear, opt for pre-ground coffee in a sealed bag or vacuum canister. Just make sure it’s ground for your brew method—too fine or too coarse can throw off your cup.

Pro tip: If you’re using pre-ground, portion it into daily doses before you leave—less mess, less guesswork.

A Few Extras We Always Carry

1. A small digital scale (optional, but great for dialing in your ratio)

2. Reusable stir stick or spoon

3. Sealed bag or airtight container to keep beans (or grounds) fresh

4. A soft cloth or brush to keep your grinder clean on the go

5. A good travel mug to keep your brewed coffee warm (and portable)

Coffee, Anywhere. No Compromises.

The best part of building your travel coffee kit is knowing you’re covered—no matter where you are. A familiar brew in an unfamiliar place can be grounding, energizing, even meditative.

You don’t need to bring your entire kitchen to make good coffee on the go—just a few thoughtfully chosen tools and a little bit of ritual.

Happy brewing.
