Few coffees in the world inspire as much admiration—or fascination—as Geisha. Elegant, aromatic, and complex, it’s a variety that has captivated coffee drinkers and professionals alike for nearly two decades.

But the story of Geisha begins long before its rise to fame.

For over 60 years, the Geisha coffee plant quietly grew among other varietals at Hacienda La Esmeralda in Panama. It wasn’t until 2004 that its distinct potential was finally recognized. When the farm separated the Geisha cherries into their own micro-lot, the results stunned the coffee world.

The flavor was unlike anything roasters or baristas had ever tasted: floral and tea-like, with notes of tropical fruit and citrus—strikingly different from the typical Central American profile. The discovery traced back to Ethiopia’s Gesha region, where this heirloom varietal originated.

Since that moment, Geisha has become synonymous with excellence—winning world barista championships, shattering auction records, and earning a reputation as one of the most refined expressions of coffee on earth.

Beyond its reputation, Geisha represents something deeper: dedication to craft. It’s a plant that demands near-constant care, thriving only at high elevations under precise conditions. Between 2011 and 2019, seven World Barista Champions competed and won with Geisha coffees—a testament to the variety’s expressive power and versatility. But beyond the accolades, Geisha represents something more human: the connection between passionate farmers and curious drinkers. Every Geisha lot is a collaboration between land, grower, and roaster—an ongoing conversation that results in something truly extraordinary.
