Café Rivense, run by the Ureñas family for three generations, has been built around family, innovation, and quality—values our family shares as well. In fact, having our families come together when our green buyer, Ben Turiano and his family had the pleasure of staying at Café Rivense, is what has truly endeared this coffee to our hearts. Seeing the care they put into their coffee is inspiring.
Finca El Mango, named after the mango trees growing among the coffee plants, is a micro-lot grown on the southeastern side of the mountain – opposite its sister micro-lot Las Torres. This difference in sun-exposure gives the coffee a unique flavor profile – one bursting with sweet notes of nectarine and mango.
We think this micro-lot not only showcases Café Rivense’s skill as a farm, but highlights their abilities as a mill as well. Coffee cherries are picked at peak ripeness and are then de-pulped without any use of water, to ensure the maximum amount of mucilage is left on the coffee. These coffees are then carefully air-dried on raised beds, where the sugar in the mucilage concentrates as the coffee dries. This method requires constant monitoring and rotation to ensure even drying, and yields coffee with their signature sweetness and expressive aroma.
